What Actually Drives the Price of an Implant
Two patients can need "one implant" and receive very different — and equally fair — quotes. These six factors explain nearly all of the difference.
Bone Volume & Grafting
An implant needs solid bone. If bone has receded after an extraction or gum disease, grafting adds a surgical step — and cost — before or during placement.
Extractions Needed
A failing tooth must come out before the implant goes in. Simple extractions add modest cost; surgical extractions of broken-down roots add more.
Restoration Material
The visible tooth matters as much as the post. Layered porcelain, monolithic zirconia, and hybrid full-arch materials sit at different price points and serve different bites.
Number of Teeth & Arch Design
Per-tooth cost drops as the plan scales: two implants can carry a 3–4 tooth bridge, and four to six can support an entire arch — far less than one implant per missing tooth.
Sedation Choice
Local anesthetic is included. Oral sedation or deeper options for anxious patients or longer surgeries add a predictable, quoted line item — never a surprise.
Lab Workflow — Ours Is In-House
Most offices pay an outside lab to make your crown or arch and pass that markup on. Our in-house lab removes the middleman, tightens fit, and cuts costly remakes.
Typical Orange County Implant Fee Ranges
Ranges observed across Orange County practices, so you can sanity-check any quote — including ours.
| Treatment | Typical OC Range | What's Included |
|---|---|---|
| Single implant | $3,500–$6,000 | Implant post, abutment, and porcelain crown — the complete tooth |
| Implant bridge (3–4 teeth) | $8,000–$15,000 | Two implant posts, abutments, and a connected multi-tooth bridge |
| LOCATOR FIXED™ full arch | Often the value option among fixed arches — ask for the side-by-side at your consult | Implants, LOCATOR FIXED attachments, and a fixed full-arch prosthesis |
| All-on-4 | $20,000–$35,000 per arch | Four implants, surgery, provisional teeth, and the final fixed arch |
| All-on-6 | Upper end of the $20,000–$35,000 full-arch range | Six implants for added stability, surgery, provisional and final arch |
These ranges reflect typical Orange County fees, not quotes. Your written estimate from Dr. Tafreshi may differ once your 3D scan and exam are complete.
Why We Don't Post One Exact Price Online
An honest implant price requires information no website form can capture: a CBCT scan. The 3D image routinely changes the plan — revealing hidden bone loss that calls for grafting, or dense healthy bone that makes treatment simpler and less expensive than expected. Quoting before the scan means guessing, in either direction.
It's also why teaser prices elsewhere so often grow. A number published to get you in the door usually describes the implant post alone; the abutment, crown, imaging, and any surgery appear later as "additional findings." The revision is built into the model.
Dr. Tafreshi's policy is simpler: we quote once, in writing, after the exam — every component itemized, every phase dated. The number you leave with is the number you pay.

Making Implants Fit Your Budget
A fair price still deserves a workable payment plan. Most patients combine two or more of these.
CareCredit
Healthcare credit line with promotional financing on qualifying treatment amounts. Apply online in minutes; approval decisions are typically immediate.
Cherry
Modern point-of-sale financing that splits treatment into fixed monthly payments. Soft credit check to see your options — no impact on your score to look.
HSA / FSA Dollars
Implants are generally an eligible medical expense, so pre-tax dollars can cover surgery, abutments, and crowns — an effective discount at your tax rate.
Phased Treatment
Extractions and grafting first, implants later, restoration last. The written plan sequences the phases so each fits your budget and heals on schedule.
